Below are four partially completed CBP Form 7501 Entry Summary forms. Concentrating only on Blocks 2, 6, and 9, which one of the four forms correctly shows the entry type, port code, and mode of transport for the facts provided?
How to get there
Take the three blocks one at a time, using the facts on p. 8:
Block 2, Entry typeMBM asked for temporary importation under bond (the 9813.00.20 samples in Q17). In ACE that's entry type 23 (TIB). Type 08 is not the TIB code.
Block 6, Port code (Schedule D)Mr. Costa arrives by air at Houston: 5309 = Houston Intercontinental Airport. 2304 is a Texas land-border port (Laredo), not where he lands.
Block 9, Mode of transport (ACE ES Instructions)40 = Air, non-container · 60 = Passenger, hand-carried. The samples travel in Mr. Costa's baggage, so the code is 60 even though he flew.
Only form C shows 23 / 5309 / 60. The answer is C.
Why the other choices are wrong
A) 08 / 5309 / 60: right port and mode, wrong entry type (08 isn't TIB).
B) 08 / 5309 / 40: wrong entry type, and 40 (air cargo) ignores that the samples are hand-carried.
D) 23 / 2304 / 40: right entry type, but the port is a land-border port and the mode is air cargo.
Tip
Hand-carried goods are MOT 60, whatever plane or ship the traveler used. Know the common entry types: 01 consumption, 02 quota, 03 AD/CVD, 06 FTZ, 11 informal, 21 warehouse, 23 TIB, 31 warehouse withdrawal.
