Which activity can earn one continuing broker education credit?

April 2026 examBroker ComplianceQuestion 2 of 80

Which ONE of the following activities may qualify for one credit of continuing broker education?

How to get there

Under 19 CFR 111.103(a), an activity qualifies only if it passes two tests: (1) an eligible provider, with prior accreditation if the provider isn't a U.S. government agency, and (2) an eligible type of activity.

C passes both tests. A convention is an eligible activity type under (a)(2)(ii). Presenting as a speaker at one is covered by (a)(2)(v). And the accreditor approved it before it was held. One hour of presenting is two 30-minute blocks, which is one credit.

Why the other choices are wrong

B) The AI-in-classification discussion session: it's run by a private workshop, not a government agency, so it needs accreditor approval before it's provided. The organizers only plan to seek approval after the session ends. CBP employees attending doesn't make it a government-offered activity.
D) Preparing material for a self-guided online course: the preparation allowance in (a)(2)(iv) and (b)(1)(ii) applies only to presentations at a seminar, webinar or workshop ((a)(2)(i)) or a symposium or convention ((a)(2)(ii)). A self-guided online course with a retention test falls under (a)(2)(iii), which has no preparation credit.
A) The CBP webinar on CBLE exam-day procedures: CBP-offered training doesn't need accreditation, so this one turns on content. The continuing education requirement exists so brokers "maintain sufficient knowledge of customs and related laws, regulations, and procedures … necessary to render valuable service to importers" (19 CFR 111.1). A session on exam-day logistics for examinees doesn't build that knowledge. Our note: the regulation's text on CBP-offered training is broad, so this is the most likely reasoning rather than an explicit rule. C is the only choice that clearly satisfies every requirement.
Tip
Exam pattern: CE questions usually turn on timing of approval (before, never after), who the provider is (government agency vs. everyone else), and the instructor allowance (half a credit per 30 minutes, at most 1 credit of preparation per session, at most 12 instructor credits per triennial period).
